Shell core technology

Shell core technology is a process that utilizes thin, precision-made sand cores (shell cores) manufactured from resin-bonded sand. These cores are produced by coating a heated metal core box with a mixture of sand and thermosetting resin, creating a strong and dimensionally stable ‘shell’.

The produced shell cores are then used in a casting process, such as sand casting or gravity die casting, to create complex internal geometries and cavities. The controlled core-making process ensures excellent dimensional accuracy and a smooth surface finish in the final casting.

The use of shell cores offers several technical advantages. Their high strength and dimensional stability allow them to withstand the thermal and mechanical loads generated during the casting process . In addition, their smooth surfaces improve the internal finish of the casting, reducing the need for subsequent machining and finishing.

Shell core technology enables the production of complex, thin-walled components with high reproducibility.  This makes the process particularly suitable for applications where precision, intricate detail and internal casting quality are essential.
