What is the specific purpose of the impregnation line in combination with T6 heat treatment?

Microscopic pores may form within aluminium components during the casting process. During T6 heat treatment, thermal expansion can enlarge or expose existing porosity, potentially affecting the pressure tightness of the casting. Using a vacuum impregnation process, our impregnation line seals these pores with a specialist resin. This produces high-quality, pressure-tight components capable of withstanding demanding operating pressures.

T6 Heat Treatment

T6 heat treatment is used to significantly improve the mechanical properties of aluminium castings, particularly their strength and hardness.. This treatment is suitable for demanding applications in industries such as aerospace, commercial vehicles, automotive and machinery manufacturing.

The T6 heat-treatment process consists of three main stages:
Solution heat treatment: the castings are heated to a high temperature and held there for a specified period.
Quenching: the castings are rapidly cooled in water.
Artificial ageing: the castings are maintained at a moderate temperature for an extended period to achieve the required mechanical properties.

In addition, our foundry operates an impregnation line to seal microporosity in aluminium castings. This helps improve pressure tightness and further enhances the reliability and quality of the finished components.
